The first crush
September 28, 2005 marked a major milestone for Six Sigma Ranch and Vineyards. On that bright autumn day, Six Sigma Winery celebrated its inaugural production – crushing 6.4 tons of Tempranillo grapes harvested from Christian’s Diamond Mine Vineyard. With the final equipment installed just days prior to harvest, our winemakers, May-Britt and Denis Malbec of Chateau Latour in Bordeaux, applied their world-class winemaking craft to the first Six Sigma Wine produced on site.
Harvest 2005
That September production was just the first of many. We processed later harvests of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Diamond Mine and Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from Else’s vineyard as well as grapes from other vineyards. The winery’s five 1300-gallon tanks and the 2600-gallon tank were in constant use until the end of the season.
Premier releases
During 2006, we were proud to announce our premier releases: 2005 Sauvignon Blanc, 2005 Rosé and a small amount of our very first harvest, 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Growing pains
Before the 2006 harvest, we realized that our small winery needed to grow in sync with the grape vines in the vineyards. To accomodate the bigger harvest, we added on to the concrete slab and purchased three more 1300-gallon tanks. The following year, more tanks were added.
